Visit From Paddy & Barbara

12th Jun 2026

On Wednesday, May 27th, we were delighted to welcome local potter Paddy Rolleston and his wife Barbara to our school. Paddy had learned about our River Ecosystem Campaign 2026 and, inspired by the children’s work, kindly created a commemorative plate for the class to mark the occasion. Also in attendance were Gerry Merrick (Chairman of Ballisodare Fishing Club), Susie from ATU, and Clare from Ballisodare Fishing Club.

We gathered in the GP room, where Freya warmly welcomed our visitors on behalf of the class. Charlie, Jake, and Oliver then gave an excellent summary of our recent visit to Lackagh Stream and Ballisodare Falls.

Paddy spoke to the children about the process of creating and decorating the plate, explaining the meaning behind each element of the design. He also shared insights into his journey in education and how he became a potter. The children thoroughly enjoyed asking questions, and Barbara added further reflections on Paddy’s experiences over the years.

It was a very enjoyable and memorable visit. Devon and Miguel presented Paddy with a card designed by the them which featured a salmon and Ballisodare Falls & was signed by the class as a token of appreciation. In return, Paddy presented the class with the beautiful plate and a copy of his book.

We are very grateful to Paddy for his generosity and craftsmanship, which made the day so special for everyone involved.
