September in Sixth Class

3rd Oct 2023

Here is a recap of September in 6th class!!!

First let's talk about English. At the start of the month we read a story called “What Not to Do if you Turn Invisible” . It was about a young girl called Ethel. She called her grandma to tell her she was invisible! Will her grandma believe her? Read the book to find out. Next we were learning about how to conduct conversations by being a good listener, a good speaker and having a good ability to ask questions. Next we started reading our class novel “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” A heartbreaking novel set during World War 2 (Here’s an interesting fact: John Boyne the author is Irish)

Anois ag bogadh ar aghaidh go Gaeilge, scríobhamar faoi na téamaí ‘Mé Féin’ agus ‘Mo chlann’ (We wrote about ourselves and our families, including parents and siblings). Fresin, d’fhoghlaimíomar faoin bhFómhar’ (Autumn). Scríobhamar ár nuacht trí Ghaeilge chomh maith. (The news in Irish)

Next up was maths! We did a lot of revision from 5th class! We learned about place value, averages and did a lot of multiplication with estimation! (Not to mention the Friday tests!) Now here's a question for you! 813x34

Moving on to SESE, we learned all about World War 2. We learned a bit about Anne Frank, countries in the war and when it started/ended plus a lot more!

In music we learned a really catchy song called you guessed it! “Football Crazy”

In P.E we played so much football (I think we’re football crazy!) Which explains why we learned this song!

Art… my favourite subject! In art we drew self portraits! We entered a competition ran by the Credit Union. The theme was “Me and My Community” (Best of luck to all who entered)

And in other news!

We made projects on ourselves using Canva. We also met up with the infants and made an 'All About Me' poster for them!

The weather was really good during the start of school, so on one of the Fridays we won an extra ten minutes outside so Mrs McDonagh brought us to SuperValu to get ice creams (Which we all enjoyed, Thank you teacher!)

We also attended a school mass in the G.P room to celebrate the start of the school year!

We found out the date of our Confirmation. It is the 13th of April next year! (looking forward to it already!)

That's all for this month! Tune in for next months recap

Mia :)
