Climate Resilience – Rainfall and Flooding

How Spongy Is Our School? ๐ŸŒฑ

For our project, we became weather scientists!

  • We measured the rainfall every day during our monitoring period.

  • We tested the rainwater twice a week to find its pH.

๐Ÿ” What Did We Do?

Every day, we went outside to:

  • Observe the meniscus (the curved water level in the rain gauge)

  • Measure the rainfall

  • Record our results in our daily table

Twice a week, we:

  • Tested the pH of the rainwater

  • Used pH strips and a colour chart

  • Matched the colours to find the pH value

๐Ÿงช What Did We Discover?

  • The average pH of our rainwater was 6.4

This showed us that rainwater is slightly acidic, which is normal.

๐ŸŒ What Did We Learn?

Through this project, we learned about:

  • Rainfall and weather patterns

  • How scientists collect data

  • How rainwater can affect flooding

  • Why it’s important to make our school more flood-resilient

We learned about weather, rain, and ways to make our school more flood resilient and environmentally friendly.
