Climate Resilience – Rainfall and Flooding
How Spongy Is Our School? ๐ฑ
For our project, we became weather scientists!
-
We measured the rainfall every day during our monitoring period.
-
We tested the rainwater twice a week to find its pH.
๐ What Did We Do?
Every day, we went outside to:
-
Observe the meniscus (the curved water level in the rain gauge)
-
Measure the rainfall
-
Record our results in our daily table
Twice a week, we:
-
Tested the pH of the rainwater
-
Used pH strips and a colour chart
-
Matched the colours to find the pH value
๐งช What Did We Discover?
-
The average pH of our rainwater was 6.4
This showed us that rainwater is slightly acidic, which is normal.
๐ What Did We Learn?
Through this project, we learned about:
-
Rainfall and weather patterns
-
How scientists collect data
-
How rainwater can affect flooding
-
Why it’s important to make our school more flood-resilient
We learned about weather, rain, and ways to make our school more flood resilient and environmentally friendly.
