Another Great Day of Active Schools Week
A Fantastic Day for Fourth Class
Fourth Class had a wonderful day filled with fun, learning and teamwork.
We began the day with a skipping challenge organised by Tom and Scarlet from Sixth Class. The challenge was to see who could achieve the highest number of consecutive skips, and everyone gave it their best effort.
After lunch, we travelled to Ballisodare Fisheries, where we were warmly welcomed by Gerry Merrick, Chairman of the Fishing Club and a great friend of St. John’s. Gerry spoke to the children about the Ballisodare River system and the history of salmon in the river. His talk was extremely interesting, and we learned a great deal about salmon and the efforts being made to increase their numbers.
We also met Tanya and Susie from ATU, who brought along samples collected during a kick test carried out earlier upstream. The children used identification booklets to help name the fascinating creatures found in the samples, giving us a hands-on insight into river ecology.
When we returned to school, it was time for the novelty races, organised by Sixth Class. The races were great fun and included the three-legged race, wheelbarrow race, egg-and-spoon race and several other exciting events. There was plenty of laughter, teamwork and friendly competition throughout the afternoon.
Overall, it was a fantastic day that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. A big thank you to all those who helped make it such a memorable experience for Fourth Class.
