February in Mrs McDonagh’s 6th Class

16th Mar 2022

Here is a summary of all the work we completed in February in Mrs.McDonagh’s 6th Class.

Gaeilge

This month in Gaeilge we learned about bia. We made a chocolate biscuit cake as Gaeilge, it was very fun and yummy!

Maths

In maths this month, we learned all about fractions, decimals and percentages. It was very educational. Although it was hard at times it was still enjoyable to learn about.

English

English this month was very interesting. We continued to learn about T.S.I. and we began to do it in our own groups. Most of the groups are now reading the novel Holes by Louis Sachar and two other groups are reading Mr. Stink by David Walliams. In TSI we all have different jobs, there are enough jobs for each group of three, there is the Leader, Questioner and Strategist. The Leader’s job is to lead the group and make sure everyone in the group has everything they need to start the TSI session. The Questioner creates questions for each chapter, for example , here questions or hidden questions etc. The Strategist’s job is to pick a strategy for the chapter for the group to work on, for example, predictions, connections and visualisations.

JEP

Working on The Junior Entrepreneur Project this month was so much fun. We split into groups of three to seven and came up with an idea to present to the ‘Dragons’ ( aka Mr. Dillon, Cecil Whiteside and Mrs. McMoreland). All the ideas presented were excellent and included Brunch Boxes, The School Kit and Active Busy Bags. The idea that won was Super Books, by Maggie Noone, Zaina Waseem and Lena Martyka.

Cecil Whiteside came into our class and spoke to us about his businesses, Supervalu and Centra. He spoke to us about how he became an entrepreneur and the obsticales he had to over come. What risks he took to become so successful.

Music

In music this month we have been practising tin whistle and we learned a new song called Captain Moonlight Army. We also learned a song called The Foggy Dew which Conor McGregor listens to before he enters the ring for a boxing match.

Confirmation

This year the two 6th classes, our class and Mr. Brennan’s and Mr. Mulderrig’s 5th class will make their Confirmation. We have been working hard to prepare for their Confirmation. We have learned a song called ‘In Christ Alone’ by Stuart Townend. Some girls are playing it on the tin whistle and some boys are playing percussion. Other pupils are singing the song.

Art

This month we created a moon lit image with pastels. We used tissue paper to blend and shade. For Valentine’s Day we drew a patterned sunrise with heart’s, using sharpies. These are on display in the corridor. We also made lego replicas of ourselves which we coloured with pencils and outlined them with sharpies.
